He has shaped a career spanning the corporate and not-for-profit worlds.  Beginning as an HR generalist in manufacturing and primary production, he’s served as a consultant, trainer and coach to a variety of businesses and some of Australia’s most-recognised not-for profits.

For many organisations, their single biggest expense is their people – yet they entrust the management of those people to team leaders, mid-level managers and executives with little or no training in the specific skills of supervising staff.  People tend to start jobs because they like the company, and leave them because they don’t like their boss. 

Like a Boss takes the reader through the fundamentals of supervision: the kind of boss people love to work for, some foundational theory of supervision, a practical process for supervision, and some solid counsel on issues like recruitment, conflict and burnout. 

Written in an informal and entertaining style, it’s punctuated with lessons from history and insights from recent research. 

Pathways: Local Mission for All Kinds of Churches

Pathways is a way of thinking about, planning and enacting the mission of Jesus in the context of the local church.

Pathways is based in the notion that all kinds of churches can be effective in mission: church plants and ancient cathedrals, emerging churches and traditional churches, churches that are big on preaching or social action, and those that emphasise liturgy and sacraments.  

Pathways thinking arose from field experience in coaching church planters and church leaders. We asked the question, What are the similarities in churches that grow by making new disciples?  And it’s been honed by field experience in over a hundred churches across four countries over more than two decades.
